“If this isn’t love, then maybe I’m crazy!” Happy Valentine’s Day 2016!

Man and wife drinking Kruger beer, 1952. One of the prints exhibiting at Arles this summer.

One of Harold’s favorite expressions was, “If this isn’t love, then maybe I’m crazy!” He often sang the words with a catchy tune. I later discovered that the song was from the Broadway musical Finian’s Rainbow. The original lyrics said: “If this isn’t love, the whole world is crazy”, but Harold’s adaptation was definitely truer to the man himself!

One of his pet projects was to get a book published of the same title. Mock-ups have been made and it’s still a project on my plate. In honor of Valentine’s Day I chose a few love photos from his seven decade career to share. I’ve added a few of his comments recorded from interviews and conversations with publishers.

Since it’s the first time in 28 years I’ve faced a Valentine’s Day without him, I’ve also taken the liberty of adding a few personal photos of the love and joy we shared together. I wish the same kind of love for everyone. Happy Valentine’s Day!
